Parasite Girls by Tory Gates

“Aidan Connor is a globetrotting American photojournalist. Burned out from a disastrous assignment, he turns up on the Tokyo doorstep of his old college friend, Mima. He soon learns that Mima’s past (and his own) have become present. A talented artist, Mima is struggling to make it on her own. Two of her oldest friends, Sora and Eko are also battling a peculiar form of social injustice: they are branded “Parasite Singles” because both still live at home despite being in their early thirties. Aidan knows everyone has a story: a brilliant painter, Sora suffers from mental illness. Eko, who appears to be the poster child for the term also has a dark past. As he remakes himself, Aidan is reminded of what kept him close to Mima all these years. He also sees what keeps Mima, Sora, Eko and Mima’s old love so close as well…one thing never dies.”

Summer Help Wanted by Ronald Walker

Highgarden Academy, home of New York’s most prestigious actors. No less than greatness is expected from all of its students, and directors specifically seek out anyone with Highgarden on their résumés. Join six of Highgarden’s acting students as they strive to achieve that greatness despite the obstacles in their paths: a caretaker battles a stalled career while needing to provide for her children; a lothario strives to find his breakout role despite his short stature; a beauty gets the part of a lifetime and a director who fights her every step of the way; a composer mounts his first show starring an incompetent box office draw; an optimist struggles to get any acting work but never stops believing that she will; and a geek realizes that sometimes reality is better than fantasy.

Will their unique talents be enough to reach their goals as theater professionals? Or will they learn that success is not measured by how large their names appear on a marquee but by the friendships that help them through the hard times as they spend their careers in oblivion?

Thunderlands by Stewart Bint

A bolt of lightning. A crack of thunder. The lingering smell of ozone in the highly charged air. And the world has changed forever. Or has it? Maybe the world we knew is still exactly the same…somewhere else. In the precise moment that the thunderbolt boomed, what if a portal had opened up and sucked us through? And we’re now in a different world in a parallel universe.

Even though it looks the same on the surface, there’s just a hint that all may not quite be what it seems beneath. Even the most ordinary things may be just a touch out of kilter.
A collection of 17 short stories ranging from the sublime to the unforgivably ridiculous. Powerful, like The Twitter Bully. Puzzling, like A Timely Murder. Horrific, like The Growing Thing. Ridiculous, like Living Proof. Very different, like Ree — The Troll of Dingleay.

Petty by Isaac Jourden

Welcome to Wonderments Family Fun Park!

The ultimate summer home to roller coasters, water slides, and spend-happy tourists from all over the world. Oh, and one small-time thief with a mission. Sell a few pieces of fake merchandise. Skim a coin at a time from every distracted shopper. Repeat until there’s enough money to disappear. If only new coworkers weren’t so distracting….

A few partial Reviews:
“An insightful look into the minds of those that surround us. It flags up some of the the dysfunctional natures that lurk within most, if not all of us. Humourous and well observed and generally interesting with a neat ending. Added interest by being unique in its coverage of amusement park staff lives, and manages to cover the mundane daily routines and activities without becoming boring. Not a book you are likely to find on amusement or theme park shelves. He runs some incredible scams that will leave you hating him at times. You will also be making a mental note of what you should/will be paying to the cashier and counting your change accurately, after reading this book.” (4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads.com)

Deceived, Soul Keeper I by LA Starkey

They say a soul is the immaterial essence, the animating principle, the actuating cause of an individual life.

But what if you had to share yours with the one person you hated the most?

The soul mate principle states that for every one soul there is another that will recognize its match, hence creating the perfect union.

But what if you had two soul mates, which would you choose?

What if your choices had eternal ramification?

Deceived, the debut novel in the Soul Keeper Series, is a modern day love story about the implications of having more than one soul mate, and having to choose between the two of them. The decisions of the gods has left the next generation, their heirs, torn between fate and reality, and the balance of the future hangs in anticipation of what’s to come.

In Shadows Waiting by Stewart Bint

In Shadows Waiting is a ghost story that gets darker by the page, inspired by the author’s real-life brush with the supernatural.
The story revolves around an ordinary family who find themselves the victim of an ever-increasing onslaught. It starts gently, building to a shattering climax. During a spate of burglaries in their village the family start seeing fleeting movements in their garden. Then things happen in the house. The police can find no sign of intruders.
What was simply annoying becomes frightening. Then dangerous. Then deadly. It’s clear there are supernatural forces at work.
For young Simon Reynolds and his family, the shadows are fading, the waiting is over.
The creature’s triumphant laugh was something that will be with me to my dying day.

It was a face of utmost evil, but was gone before I had a chance to register its features.

The sound was heavenly, totally out of this world and I listened entranced. It was the music of angels.
Those eyes mirrored all the wickedness and evil ever born on this Earth.
But at that moment he didn’t know just how dangerous. And neither did I.
Why has it suddenly started to come now? They were questions to which we had no answers. Yet.

Watersmeet by Rachel Cotterill

When a stranger tells her she’s a mage, Ailith is intrigued but she’s also afraid. Magic is eresy, and heresy means death under the Temple Law. Even literacy is suspect in a girl of her background, and her sister’s impending wedding only serves as a reminder that she should
be focusing on her future. Then a local priest asks her to rescue his son, and she starts to wonder if her talents could be a blessing, after all.

The Lord Baron of Watersmeet, Leofwin isn’t accustomed to welcoming uninvited visitors. A commoner turning up at his gates should be no more than a minor footnote to his day, but something about Ailith
catches his attention. Alchemy can be lonely work and an apprentice
might be just what he needs.

As their lessons grow into shared experiments, Leofwin wonders if he
might even trust her with his greatest challenge. But Ailith can’t
forget why she came to the castle.

Watersmeet is a romantic, high fantasy novel ideal for fans of Maria V
Snyder and Charlotte E English.

No Distance Between Us by Bernard Foong (A.K.A. Young)

An Excerpt from A Harem Boy’s Saga – I – Initiation; a memoir by Young.

This provocative story is about a young man who was initiated into a clandestine sexual society. He was spirited to the Middle East, from his UK boarding school. He attended the Bahriji School (Oasis,) in The United Arab Emirates in preparation for serving in Harems for the wealthy and elite.

It is also a love story between the young man and his ‘Valet’ who served as his chaperone and mentor during the boy’s Harem service.

Author’s note:

I had a privileged and unique upbringing in Malaysia. Following in my brothers’ footsteps, I was sent to an exclusive boarding school in England. It is there that I was inducted into a clandestine organization, E.R.O.S. The Enlightened Royal Oracle Society. For four years, unbeknownst to my family, I was willingly and happily part of a Harem.

My story has been kept under wraps for close to 45 years. The correct moment has arrived for me to make known my unique education.

A Game For Assassins by James Quinn

The assassination of a Caribbean dictator….

The “hit” on a traitor in Beirut……

The brutal murder of a young CIA officer behind the Iron Curtain…..

So begins the game……

It is 1964, the height of the Cold War, and British Intelligence is riding high with its top double agent network: Constellation.

But in the secret war fought across Europe the enemy is never far away and soon the agents of Constellation are targeted by an unknown team of assassins.  In desperation British Intelligence sends in their best agent to protect the network and hunt down the killers.

Jack “Gorilla” Grant isn’t your typical Cold War secret agent.  Short, tough, uncompromising, rough edged. He doesn’t fit in with the elitist spies and debonair intelligence agents.  He prefers working at the rough end of British covert operations.

But “Gorilla” is one of the best “Redactors” in the business.  He’s an expert at close quarter shooting: quick to the draw and deadly accurate when it comes to the elimination of traitors and extremists on behalf of the British Secret Service (SIS).  He is soon drawn into a game of cross and double cross where nothing is as it seems and even the most perfect spy can die in a wilderness of mirrors.

“A Game for Assassins”  is an action packed edge of your seat thrill ride played out across the global stage of the Cold War.
