Author: Chris Ethan

Genre: Gay Romance, Contemporary, New Adult

Pierce is homeless.

Young and strong-willed Pierce has been living in the streets of New York City for six months, since his parents kicked him out of their perfect, Christian, suburban house. Pierce is gay. And he is suffering the consequences for being true to himself.

Rafe is homeless.

He is also sick. Impressionable, but far from innocent, Rafe ran away from home almost a year ago. His sickness is slowly killing him. But Rafe is not a hopeless case. He has learned to get by. Nights of paid passion turn to sheltering warmth from the imminent New York winter.

And then there’s a suitcase. Pierce’s suitcase, which holds secrets from everyone including its owner.

When their worlds collide, their lives intertwine and when the world seems bent on bringing the two souls to their knees, fate has other plans for them.

Caution: Contains adult language, New York City streets, tough life choices, sexual tension, stubborn brutes and swoon-worthy romance.

About the Author

Chris Ethan is a book whore. He enjoys selling his feelings for money and other pleasures and is blatantly unashamed to do so for as long as he breathes. Chris Ethan is also a persona for Rhys Christopher Ethan, author of fantasy and sci-fi. He uses Chris Ethan to share stories of adult queer romance with those who need it. “Sure,” Rafe said and unhooked his rucksack from his back and loosened the string. Before he had any time to pull out his stash, Pierce pulled some bills out of his pocket and gave them to the receptionist. He paused before letting them go. “No, Pierce. You don’t have to do that. Really,” Rafe begged him, stopping the receptionist from putting the money away.

“It’s okay, Rafe,” Pierce said and walked out of the hostel. Rafe took the money off the receptionist’s hand and followed Pierce, excusing himself.

“Wait, up. Pierce!” he was standing outside when Rafe came out the door waiting for Rafe. “You don’t have to give your money to me. I can…” he started to say pressing the bills, and his hand, on Pierce’s chest, but Piece cut him off.

“Rafe, stop. I want to do this. I…I want you to be safe. Especially after such a stupid night,” Pierce said, staring at the traffic and pushing Rafe’s hand off his chest. The man was playing so tough — and he was, kicking everyone’s butt to prove as much — but ask him to talk about his feelings and he blushes like a little girl.

“Well,” Rafe said stepping in front of Pierce and his point of focus to force him once again to look him in the eyes and finish what he wanted to say. “Thank you. You…there’s a sweetheart under that brute after all,” he told him and placed a kiss on his cheek. “Don’t be a stranger, stranger”.

Rafe disappeared back inside the hostel and got his keys from the receptionist.

“He your boyfriend?” he asked, giving him a purple keyring with a number written on it.

Rafe smiled. “I wish.” He grabbed the keys and went to bed.

Mara is forced to face her fear of losing everything she holds dear. She said that you would be a challenge to my children. I thought I had made the right choice when I selected Eliza. If only Mae had not interfered. But, enough of those sad thoughts, I think the two of you will be perfect replacements. When Mara and Cole find themselves in the cold world of Snowstrum, they will have to choose either to be true to their promise to protect the magic, or to follow their desires. Excerpt

Accepting his assistance, I stood up to find myself in the middle a winter wonderland. The snow-covered ground was filled with large trees heavy with the snow. A small white rabbit hopped through the tree lines. The sky above was a deep blue with not a cloud in it. In the distance, I could see a castle. The structure was like none I had ever seen before. The high towers and walls looked as if they were made of ice.

“Is that where we are going?” I asked, unable to maintain the cold demeanor anymore.

“That is your new home, Marina,” he said, as he put two fingers in his mouth and whistled.

Horses clomping sounded behind us. The skeleton of a man was sitting on the outside of a black and silver carriage being drawn by four skeleton horses. The driver wore a red and black uniform with a black top hat. His empty eye sockets glowed red. Slowing beside us to a step, a Vetur hopped off the back of the carriage and opened the door for us.

“Are we riding in this?” I asked. “Isn’t he the one that threw me here?”

Taking my hand, Cole said, “Mort will not harm you. This will be more comfortable than the long walk and it will give us time to talk about tomorrow’s events.”

Sensing my reluctance, he kissed me on the cheek and whispered in my ear, “Trust me. Climb in.”

WATER FALLS OVER me, the light spray from the showerhead gently massaging my head and shoulders. It’s just the right temperature. Not too hot, not too cold. I’ve always enjoyed a shower, but growing up in a country where the temperature is either hot and humid or hot and wet, a cool shower is just the thing. Here in West Virginia, a warm shower is best; although that changes in winter. Then it becomes hot, steaming ones.

I stand under the water, eyes closed, head bent, leaning my hands against the tiled wall, and allow myself to soak. How long I stay there, I have no idea. I am mentally done. Emotionally, I’m a wreck. Thinking about my father depresses me, and I hate it when I get this way. Physically, well, that’s a different story.

Cool arms snake around my torso, startling me from my gloomy thoughts. I instinctively lean back and pull the arms tighter against me, drawing the body attached closer to mine. I feel it press against my back, and warm lips travel across my shoulders. The rain of tender kisses makes the hairs on my skin stand up. I turn to face Miles, wrap my arms around him, and press my face into the soft, warm skin between his neck and shoulders.

After leaving the bar last night, he took me home. Not mine, his. I was surprised to find our houses were only a few blocks apart. I had been too tired and spent to complain, but I sat up in my seat when he turned into his driveway. I’ve had my share of physical relationships, but what happened between us last night is like something out of a dream. I guess what my lady friends said about there being a big difference between sex and lovemaking was true enough. For the first time in my life, I’d made love.

Back in Manila, I had been vomiting into the pail my private nurse was holding up for me when my father entered the room, accompanied by Letty. He rushed the nurse out the door while Letty took over pail duty.

“Jamie, you are leaving for LA once we get you out of here. Dr. Martinez has been instructed to clear you to be released from the hospital.” My father was succinct.

“Wha… why?” I tried to speak, but emesis got in the way.

“Margarita. She has finally gone off the deep end. She and your brothers are meeting with the board. I sent in my resignation last night and they only just got the email. I am leaving for Morocco in two hours, and you are flying out as soon as Dr. Martinez gives you something to put a stop to your vomiting. Letty has sent all the details to your alternate email account.”

I tried to sit up, confused about what was going on, but Letty pressed me back onto the bed. I squinted up at her, and then at my father. “What’s going on?”

“Everything is in the email I sent you. Don’t think about anything else right now, just focus on getting well enough to stand without falling on your face. You need to take that flight. It’s going to be a long one and you’ll need your energy to get things moving,” Letty said.

“Call me once you get to LA. I will send you an email with my new contact numbers.” My father sighed and ran his hand over his face. “I won’t see you for a long time, hijo, but you need to get out as quickly as you can. It’s best you don’t know anything until you get there. Letty will get in touch with you as soon as you’re settled in the hotel. Remember: get to LA and follow the instructions. Once you’re done, call me. That’s all you need to know for now.”

My father leaned down to kiss my head, but wrinkled his nose and shook my hand instead. He turned to leave, then hesitated. Returning to my side, he closed his mouth, as if not daring to breathe in, and then bent to hug me. “I love you, hijo. I wish I could explain more but there’s so little time. I’ll see you on the other side,” he said as he patted my back. Then he turned away, avoiding my eyes, and left the room.

Excerpt

My father, Jose Manuel, is the current CEO of the Abello Group of Companies, Inc., dealing with insurance policies and the import and distribution of medical pharmaceutical supplies. For almost a hundred years it has been one of the largest family-controlled companies in the Philippines. His younger brother, Fred, sits on the hospital board. My two older brothers, Francisco and Arturo, work with my father as vice presidents, but lately they have been openly challenging him on his decisions. Knowing my father’s dominant personality, I find it curious he has never once corrected them for their insubordination. Neither has he taken up their obvious challenge to his authority.

Then there is my father’s wife, Margarita. Her family invested in the company when she started dating my father. On their marriage, her father gave her a substantial amount of money to buy shares. Now she has her own seat on the board.

The Way You Look Tonight 3Drender

Yeah, my family has that much money going around. Nice, isn’t it? You might think I must be spoiled rotten, and that I go through life and money like there is no tomorrow. Well, in a way I do, but not really. Truth is, all that money and influence doesn’t make my family well-liked. Respected, yes. Feared, yes. But not liked. It doesn’t help that power struggles and infighting amongst the family members are quite famous. At times, they make headline news. In addition, like any family, we have skeletons deep in our closets. I am one of those skeletons.

As for all that money? Well, that really is the root of all of my present troubles.

When my nurse told me the exam results, I choked on my tears. I had worked so hard to get to this point. I had passed! I had made it! This was the best news ever!

Three hours later, my whole world collapsed because of that money.

But the enigmatic Ashday’s Child has his own destiny to accomplish, and will do whatever it takes within a complicated web of paradoxes to do so. While his destiny—and very existence—is challenged from the beginning to the end of time, he must collect the key players through the ages to create the very Timeshaft itself.

In anticipation of the release of the Exigency, the second book in the Protectors of the Elemental Magic Series, Marnie Cate’s beloved first novel, Remember: Protectors of the Elemental Magic, will be available on Kindle for $0.99 / £0.99 February 5th – 11th 2016

Author: Marnie Cate

Title: Remember: Protectors of the Elemental Magic

Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

Synopsis

Hiding the truth from you is no longer protecting you. Sit and I will tell you what you need to know.

With those words, the secrets of my great grandmother, Genevieve Silver, were unburied and my role as a protector of the elemental magic was revealed.

My name is Marina Addisyn Stone but Mara is what my friends and family call me.  I had always felt that there was something missing and that nothing was permanent. Why would I feel that way?  I was being raised with my little sister by my grandmother that loved and doted on me. Then, there was Cole Sands. Who could forget the blue-eyed boy that had stolen my heart? What more could a girl need?  I always thought I was just being dramatic and that bad things do happen to people but that is part of life.  People die.  People go away. Little did I know that with one secret, my life would change forever and my new world would be surrounded by the world of elemental magic?

————————————————————————–

Excerpt

As I felt my determination build, the mirror in front of me began to change and the reflection filled with rippling water. The image made me think of the choppy water of Sparrow Lake. At first, the small waves were calm but the speed and intensity of each movement of the water grew. I found myself being splashed as the waves grew harder and began to slap against the mirror. Standing up, I moved away just in time to watch the mirror before me shatter and the violent water burst out towards me.

The room began to fill with rushing water. Feeling around the room, I searched for an exit. Behind the shattered mirror, I only found solid rock. Looking to the ceiling, I could see the same hard stone. Feeling the emotions build inside me, I began search the floor and walls around me for any exit.

“Damn! Damn! Damn it!” I cried.

The water did not slow. Instead it continued to fill the room as I frantically searched for my escape. The water soon reached my knees and, what seemed like seconds later, I was wading through waist high water. As the water continued to rise, I was soon struggling to keep my head above water. It was not enough that the water was filling the room so rapidly but soon the water felt alive. The cold waves kept tossing me back and forth as the water rose and I began to feel like I was in a game of Ping-Pong where I was the ball. Soon, I found myself pulled under the icy water and surrounded by thousands of bubbles. Frantically kicking my feet to keep my head above water, I broke the surface.

Remembering the swimming lessons my grandfather insisted on, I thought about the times I spent with my grandfather learning to swim. I began to feel less scared as I recalled his calm voice and gentle words telling me that I would be safe. As I floated in the rising water, it seemed to respond to my emotions. The thrashing became calmer as I focused on my grandfather’s words. My brief moment of peace did not last. Before I knew it, I had almost reached the ceiling that had no exit and I began to panic. At this rate, I would be trapped and drowned in minutes. As if it was feeding off my fear, the water began to toss me around again.

As the water began to rise up my neck and almost over the top of my head, I tried to calm myself. You are the granddaughter of Mae Veracor and the great granddaughter of Genevieve Silver. You are the descendent of strong women. You have nothing to fear. With these words, the water once again calmed and I was able to tilt my head back above the water.
